Tree planting

I have a a 5 hectare area of land with a peaty soil which is very wet in winter and very dry in summer. I am trying to plant the area with a variety of hardwoods and the odd evergreen. The surviaval rate is very low. I have been using tree guards and have been trying to establish the area using willow but this is also of limmited sucess. I need advice on the methods of planting, ttype of tree and anything else to increase the sucess of the plantng.
